Maldives Association of Surgeons – April 2025 CME Program

The Maldives Association of Surgeons (MAS) successfully conducted its April monthly CME program on Thursday night, April 10, 2025, at the STO Training Institute. The event brought together a vibrant audience comprising surgical subspecialists, specialists, expatriate surgeons, surgical medical officers, and interns from various hospitals across the Malé area. Additionally, the session was attended virtually by Maldivian surgeons currently undergoing training abroad, ensuring broad participation and engagement.

This month’s CME focused on the theme:

“Plastic Surgery and Advanced Wound Care – Establishment and Evolution in the Maldives.”

The session featured two informative and inspiring presentations:

  • Dr. Nishama Ali, Surgical Medical Officer, Department of Surgery at IGMH, delivered a historical overview of plastic surgery in the Maldives, tracing its early beginnings and growth.
  • Dr. Mohamed Waheed, Consultant Subspecialist in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Head of the Department of Surgery at IGMH, provided insights into the initial phases of plastic surgery services in the Maldives, sharing several clinical cases and highlighting the significant contributions of the surgical team in developing this subspecialty.

The presentations sparked active participation, with many attendees engaging in meaningful discussions and sharing professional experiences, making it a truly enriching academic evening.

At the end of the session, MAS presented certificates of appreciation to the speakers and expressed special thanks to State Trading Organization – Healthcare for their generous sponsorship of the event. The evening concluded with a dinner reception kindly arranged by STO Healthcare, providing further opportunity for collegial bonding.

The Association also announced that the May 2025 CME program will feature a presentation from the Onco-Surgery Team, promising another valuable academic gathering.
