Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery Launched at DH and IGMH
Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery services were officially inaugurated at Dharumavantha Hospital (DH) and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), marking a significant milestone in the advancement of public sector surgical care in the Maldives.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by many senior surgeons who are members of the Maldives Association of Surgeons (MAS), demonstrating strong professional support for the introduction of this specialised service. The event was honoured by the presence of the Chief Guest, Honourable Minister of Health, Mr. Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, whose continued support for expanding specialised surgical services was acknowledged.
Special recognition was given to the visiting professors and expert team from Malaysia for their guidance and collaboration in establishing the service in line with international standards. The new programme aims to address the growing burden of obesity and metabolic disease by providing safe, advanced care within government hospitals, reducing the need for overseas treatment.
